My pal Phil Smiley's illustrative installation 'Freakscape' was unveiled at the B Store on Saville Row last night. He'd been working on it live in the store for over a week.
The installation draws inspiration from Phil's rural upbringing in Virginia and he explores the curiosity and carelessness of youth set in a mysterious environment of surreal wilderness.
Incorporating a variety of media including illustration, sculpture and found objects, Philip aims to convey the feeling of ever encroaching nature over what appears to be an innocent, and perhaps naive, scene.
During the opening, a live performance by musician **K created psychedelic soundscapes as soundtrack for the installation.
More of Phil's work and **K's music.
